Controversial and vocal All Progressives Congress (APC) Kogi-West senator, Dino Melaye, has got this one for the week for threatening to beat up and ‘impregnate’ Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of two-time governor of Lagos State and the party’s national leader Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a heated argument at a closed-door executive meeting held by the APC senators.
Indeed, both lawmakers, from the same party, engaged in names-calling and charged at each other almost fighting save for the intervention of their colleagues present at the meeting.
Trouble reportedly started when Melaye urged the Senate to descend heavily on members who had offered to serve as prosecution witnesses in the ongoing forgery case against Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
The Kogi senator did accuse the senators of being used by the presidency to destabilize the Senate and warned them to be ready to face the consequences of their action.
“You should go and tell those who sent you that nobody, I said nobody, no matter who he is, can ever control this Senate, ” Mr. Melaye was quoted as saying as he pointed at the affected senators, with his face contorted in rage.
However, when Mrs. Tinubu was allowed to speak, she rose, and said: “I’m just wondering why whenever Senator Dino speaks in this chamber, he is always threatening people and behaving childishly and at times like a thug.
“I think he needs to know that every senator here represents their constituencies. And that there is no need to threaten anyone.
“We are seeking and working towards reconciliation, yet you are busy issuing threats.”
Suddenly Melaye jumped off his seat and charged towards Mrs. Tinubu, saying, “Look this is not Bourdillon (referring to the famous Lagos residence of Mrs Tinubu’s politician husband). I will beat you up ….. impregnate you and nothing will happen.”
Witnesses said as Melaye charged towards the Lagos senator, other senators, especially those from the South-West geopolitical zone, waded in and shielded Mrs Tinubu from attack, and then calmed her down.
A few other senators also prevailed on Melaye to take it easy and let peace reign.
It’s true that fences have since been mended and Mrs Oluremi said she has forgiven Mr Melaye but would never be ‘intimidated’ by anyone. However, Mr Melaye must be told that it is high time he grew up and stop being childish. He is always vocal, blunt, aggressive, etc, with a high tendency to exaggerate more or less trivial issues. This is not the first time Mr Melaye is involved in a near free-for-all-fight situation at the National Assembly.
Imagine he walked the street of Bourdillon – a way of daring the Tinubus to do their worst – soon after Mrs Oluremi’s husband, Chief Bola Tinubu, took side with his beloved wifey and both men engaged in a public spat over the issue.
Perhaps, he has to come out and tell us what he means by he will impregnate Mrs Oluremi after beating her up. Impregnate a woman of that age, status, etc? Lol!
Is it not more or less a rape threat?
As I said earlier, oga Melaye please try grow up…
A big, big THUMBS DOWN to you sir >:-((
