News just rolling in indicates that Pres. Buhari has approved the appointment of Amb. Arab Yadam and Dr. Habibat Lawal as ‘Acting’ DG NIA and SGF respectively.
This follows the suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr David Babachir Lawal and National Intelligence Agency (NIA) chief Mr Ayo Oke 24 hours ago.
Amb. Arab Yadam, from Plateau State, is said to have taken over as the Acting DG of NIA. He is understood to be the senior Deputy DG among the ‘suspended’ Ayo Oke’s two deputies while Dr. Habibat Lawal from Bauchi State, is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary and now serves as the Acting SGF.
These appointments have, however, raised eyebrows as the two senior officials suspended on Wednesday (yesterday) by the President, are Christians and now to be replaced by Muslims/Northerners.
Critics say Pres. Buhari has dispensed with the Federal Character Commission and have before now, repeatedly accused him of favouring Northerners in his political appointments.
