For the second time in seven months, gunmen storm Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, kidnap students and principals

A gang of gunmen suspected to be militants, early this morning, stormed the Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, Epe, and abducted six students from the boys’ hostel and two principals.

The kidnappers were said to have arrived the school while the students were at the morning assembly.

Those abducted include the principal of the junior secondary school, Mr. Oyesola and Mr. Akirinmade, who is the principal of the senior secondary school.

The school management swiftly notified the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), which sent its men to take strategic positions around the school.

However, the police were overwhelmed by the number of militants and the sophisticated weapons in their possession. The kidnappers are believed to be Niger Delta militants, who have been involved in various criminal activities in the area.

It is understood that earlier in the week, the assailants had written to the school, informing the authorities of their imminent attack.

Very early in October 2016, gunmen attacked the school and abducted four students, two members of staff including a vice principal who were subsequently released after ransoms were believed to have been paid.
